Alternate timelines and multiverses are key similarities between 'The Flash' and 'Spiderman: No Way Home' but there is more!

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: With 'The Flash' releasing on June 16, fans are wondering whether some of the sub-plots are copied from 'Spiderman: No Way Home'. The similarities in terms of tackling multiple villains and being billionaire proteges have raised eyebrows among fans of superhero movies.

There is one core difference though. 'The Flash' manages to show what happens when two parallel worlds are created and co-exist, while 'Spiderman: No Way Home' mainly focused on how villains from alternate universes jump into Peter Parker's (played by Tom Holland) universe.

Similarities between 'The Flash' and 'Spiderman: No Way Home'

'The Flash' did not incorporate the exact story of 'The Flashpoint Paradox' and instead preferred to include different variants from two timelines. So we get two Barry Allens, two Batmen and Superman is replaced by Supergirl. The existence of two Barry Allens is similar to the three Peter Parkers in 'Spiderman: No Way Home'.

Other similarities that fans may notice is that both characters alter timelines for their own benefit and old villains make a comeback. While 'The Flash' will witness the return of General Zod from the Henry Cavill-starrer 'Man of Steel', 'Spiderman: No Way Home' had it villains from both Sam Raimi's 'Spiderman Trilogy' and Andrew Garfield's 'The Amazing Spiderman'.

Furthermore, with the return of iconic characters in both the movies, in terms of both heroes and villains had managed to create extreme anticipation among the audiences. The return of these iconic protagonists and antagonists had their own purpose of defining the central character's journey.

Differences between 'The Flash' and 'Spiderman: No Way Home'

One of the core differences between the movies can be seen in the form of 'The Flash' being based on its comic book plot of 'The Flashpoint Paradox' and 'Spiderman: No Way Home' constantly riding on the nostalgia factor by incorporating the presence of previous iterations of Spiderman played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Even though both characters alter timelines for their own benefit, the difference lies in their reasoning. Barry is trying to get back a parental figure he lost too early, while Peter is protecting his friends from a world who knows who he is.

Another major difference is that 'The Flash' effectively resets the entire DCEU, while 'Spiderman: No Way Home' introduced the new multiverse phase of the MCU to the audiences. However, given that the details of how 'The Flash' ends and its plot intricacies are under wraps till the release, most of the complaints within the fandom are about how the film is rehashing the concepts of alternate timelines and multiverses. But are the two movies really similar? That remains to be seen.

'The Flash' is all set to release on June 16, 2023 in theatres.
