Sean Newman had an elaborate plan to propose to his long-time love Janice Dean 15 years ago but nothing quite went the way he wanted

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Fox & Friends' meteorologist Janice Dean is happily married to a firefighter named Sean Newman and they have been going strong for 15 years.

While they both come from such esteemed professions, the story behind their marriage proposal is quite different and funny.

Here's all you need to know about Dean's husband and the story behind their decision to tie the knot after being together for years.

Sean Newman's career

Newman has been serving in the New York Fire Department since 1996, with a total of 27 years of service in the department. He is currently in the position of executive officer as the charter member of the Center for Terrorism and Disaster Preparedness (CTDP).

Besides, Newman is also the head of the intelligence branch. He oversees the Division 11 in Brooklyn, New York.

Dean's husband was a part of the department when the 9/11 attacks happened. He saw the chaos and devastation up close and also ended up losing several men from his team while going through the rescue operations at the Twin Towers.

While serving, Newman also pursued higher studies and completed his Master's degree with honors in security studies from the Naval Postgraduate School. He wrote his master's thesis on "Braving the Swarm: Lowering Group Bias in Integrated Fire/Police Units Facing Paramilitary Terrorism" back in 2011.

This was also around the time when Dean and Newman spent their first years as a married couple.

Janice Dean's hilarious marriage proposal story

Newman had an extended plan for proposing to his long-time love Dean 15 years ago but nothing quite went how he wanted it to.

"A decade ago I was in the middle of meteorology classes and exams," Dean wrote in a piece about their marriage.

"He was busy applying for a Master’s program and we were both working full time. But one cold February morning, Sean asked me to take a walk – and take a break," she remembered.

This was supposed to be Newman's grand plan for the proposal as he wore the same sweater as the one from their first date and took Dean out to eat at their first date's spot as well.

But unfortunately for Newman, the burger restaurant was closed and his plans were more or less ruined. However, he decided to pop the question anyway.

"In the midst of New York City scaffolding and in front of a vacant restaurant Sean took out a small velvet box," Dean recalled in the piece. "He took out a ring – a flash of sparkle. And put it on my finger. I look at him. He smiles. “Janice, will you marry me?”"

Dean, of course, said yes and the couple ended up eloping for their wedding day. Years later, with two sons between them, they decided to "make it official" on their 10th anniversary and got married in a church again.
