Former Basketball coach Bob Knight dies at 83. Former Indiana University Men's basketball coach died at his home in Bloomington.

Bob's family announced the news of his death through their official website. The reason for the death was not mentioned anywhere in it.

However, it is confirmed that Bob had multiple illnesses, including diabetes and back problems. He also suffered from a stroke that left him with limited mobility and speech difficulties.

The family said in the statement, "It is with heavy hearts that we share that Coach Bob Knight passed away at his home in Bloomington surrounded by his family."

They added, "We are grateful for all the thoughts and prayers, and appreciate the continued respect for our privacy as Coach requested a private family gathering, which is being honored. We will continue to celebrate his life and remember him, today and forever as a beloved Husband, Father, Coach, and Friend."

The family then asked people to contribute to the Alzheimer's Association or Marian University to honor Bob.

Bob was the take of the town in 1979 for being accused of assaulting a police officer. In Puerto Rican, he assaulted a San Juan policeman.

Bob was charged with the assault and was summoned to appear before the judge. However, he refused to appear and instead left the Island. Later, the coach realized his mistake and apologized for it.

"I feel very sorry for all the bad understandings that resulted from that incident and deeply appreciate those people like you who, whether they agree with me or not, are willing to bring this chapter to a close," UPI reports Bob apologizing in one of the letters to President of Puerto Rico Olympic Committee, German Rieckehoff.
