Reacting to Kevin Costner's claims, Christine Baumgartner stated that he would leave their children homeless by making them vacate the California home

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The 1990 film 'Dances With Wolves' cemented Kevin Costner's place in Hollywood aristocracy, so it's only natural that he gave his opulent $80 million Aspen mansion the same name as his character. The expansive Dunbar Ranch, which spans 160 acres and has been dubbed "the ultimate luxury retreat," is so sizable that it has been compared to a small village. Around 27 guests can sleep peacefully in the property's 12 bedrooms and eight baths.

Many would say, Costner, 68, wouldn't have many problems after owning such an ideal retreat. However, right now, Costner is reportedly battling his estranged wife, Christine Baumgartner, over her unwillingness to vacate their $145 million home in Carpinteria, California, in what looks to have developed into a vicious divorce. Despite having the choice of Dunbar Ranch as a base, the $250 million Oscar winner has claimed in court he is currently homeless. On the other side, Baumgartner claims that Costner is attempting to make their three children homeless by making her vacate the California property that served as the family's residence, as per reports.

About Costner's Dunbar Ranch

The mansion, which bears the name of Lieutenant John J Dunbar, is incredibly large, and it even looks to be under development to add more facilities, according to aerial pictures. The main house, located six miles outside of Aspen, Colorado, in a breathtaking valley, offers spectacular views of the countryside, including two private fishing lakes stocked with trout. The rich grassland surrounding the property is cut through by the Roaring Fork River, which is renowned for its swift current and pure waters.

The property features a baseball field called 'Field of Dreams', referencing Costner's 1989 film of the same name. The actor has been an avid sports fan his whole life and has been seen watching Texas Longhorn games when staying at one of his properties in Texas. A group of support personnel also live on the property and operate Dunbar Ranch. Additionally, there are horse corrals and a golfing area.

The opulent home has so much to offer that it was only recently available for rental at $36,000 per night. According to the description on the retreat's website, the property is "located in serene seclusion yet only minutes from downtown Aspen." The compound is described as "the ultimate luxury retreat" because of its "pristine landscape, breathtaking views of the Continental Divide, and three exquisite homes on the property," as reported by Daily Mail.

About Costner's California compound

The crown jewel of Costner's real estate portfolio is unquestionably his vast oceanfront mansion in Carpinteria, California, a hotspot for celebrities and worth an estimated $145 million. He consolidated his residences to form a cohesive estate after selling seven acres of the property to a neighbor in 2007. Due to family obligations and time spent in his Aspen home, Costner noted that he never finished building the ideal home he had originally planned for the location.

The estate boasts a 500-foot stretch of private beach that is bordered by cliffs, and Costner has constructed what appears to be a leisure home. The house also has a riding route with views of the Santa Barbara mountains, various islands, and the coast. The celebrity listed the magnificent home for sale in 2017 for $60 million. Later that year, the house's listing was taken off without being sold, as per reports.

Christine Baumgartner allegedly wouldn't leave the California house

Baumgartner and Costner's divorce took a dramatic turn when he said she wouldn't leave their California house and had charged $95,000 to his credit card. She has a restraining order against him, and it was also revealed. In court, the actor's attorneys assert that they have made "multiple offers" to convince his wife, Baumgartner, 49, a model turned handbag designer, to leave the former marital home, but have been unable to come to an arrangement.

Costner, who has been filming in Utah for the past three months, claims he needs a house because he will no longer be on site starting in early June. He claims that the divorce will leave him homeless, which is unusual. Costner even claimed to edit movies at the house next door, which is also his property, as reported by Daily Mail.

Christine Baumgartner's two 'failed' enterprises both before and after the couple married

Apart from the claims related to the properties, Costner stated that he supported Christine's two "failed" enterprises before and after the couple were married and that she was content to take advantage of the pre-nuptial agreement for many years but has now decided to do away with it. He fears that getting rid of the pre-nuptial agreement may lead to "irreparable harm" for him. Baumgartner was the one to file for a divorce on May 1, stating the reason as irreconcilable differences.
