For Avatar: The Last Airbender fans (a dedicated bunch), the universe is expanding.

In 2018, Netflix announced the making of a live-action adaptation of Nickelodeon's beloved animated show. At last it doesn't seem to be too far away (!): the series will premiere in 2024.

An initial teaser doesn't reveal much, and there's still a year ago. Albert Kim, the showrunner and executive producer, says the priority in the series' creaation has been "authenticity".

"Authenticity is what keeps us going, both in front of the camera and behind it, which is why we’ve assembled a team unlike any seen before—a group of talented and passionate artists who are working around the clock to bring this rich and incredibly beautiful world to life," said Kim.

The series' original creators Michael Dante DiMartino & Bryan Konietzko played a role in the making, before departing the show due to creative differences.

The Netflix adaptation will consist of eight one-hour long episodes, each of which reportedly cost $15 million. The cast comprises of Gordon Cormier as Aang, Dallas Liu as Prince Zuko, Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Lord Ozai, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as General Iroh and Ken Leung as Commander Zhao.
