Jim Jordan 'never wears a jacket,' Trump exclaimed in his White House speech celebrating the end of his impeachment trial in 2020

MANHATTAN, NEW YORK CITY: Despite facing the possibility of 91 felony charges that could entail a staggering prison sentence of 641 years, Donald Trump still found time to appreciate the impressive physique of Rep Jim Jordan (R-OH).

As per Seth Meyers, this is just one instance of how the former president has added a touch of peculiarity to the Republican party.

'Trump has praised Jordan for the weirdest reasons'

On the October 12 episode of 'Late Night With Seth Meyers', fans saw Meyers' 'A Closer Look' segment discuss the complete disorder within the GOP and their disorderly quest for a new House Speaker.

It took the House Republicans nine days and a confidential ballot vote to announce Rep Steve Scalise (R-LA) as their preference to succeed the recently removed Kevin McCarthy. This choice directly contradicted Trump's enthusiastic endorsement of Jordan for the role.

Meyers speculated on the reasons behind this discrepancy, poking fun at Trump's speech.

“In the past, Trump has praised Jordan for the weirdest reasons,” Meyers explained.

Trump feels Jordan is 'proud of his body'

In February 2020, during Trump's White House speech celebrating the end of his impeachment trial, he disclosed, “When I first got to know Jim I said, ‘Huh. Never wears a jacket! What the hell’s going on?’”

The then-POTUS claimed that Jordan’s tendency to treat every day like it’s Casual Friday must be because “he’s proud of his body."

Meyers says 'everyone stopped caring about hypocrisy'

While the audience burst into laughter, Meyers continued, "Well, I guess we know how Trump feels about his body."

"If his jackets were any bigger, they would technically be cocoons," he quipped.

"I understand that everyone stopped caring about hypocrisy years ago," Meyers observed, regaining composure after Trump's peculiar remarks about Jordan's physique.

"But just picture how conservatives would respond if Joe Biden was on the campaign trail discussing the body-positivity of the men in the Democratic party. 'I'll tell you, our caucus right now is just one Gosling after another," he said.

Ultimately, these dynamics seem to lack substantial importance. Despite Trump's backing, Jordan's fellow Republicans chose Scalise as their next leader. However, Scalise quickly withdrew from consideration for the role.
