The awe-inspiring entries to the Ocean Photographer of the Year 2023 contest have been released.

Agencies in Santa Barbara, California, destroyed 2,000 bottles of wine that were sold by Ocean Fathoms, the office of the city's district attorney announced last week. Starting in 2017, the company was sinking crates full of bottles without a proper permit in hand from the California Coastal Commission and US Army Corps of Engineers.

These freak waves are rare and unpredictable—and are believed to have caused numerous shipwrecks.

OceanGate Expeditions, the company that operates the submersible that went missing during an excursion to the site of the Titanic, faced a series of mechanical problems and inclement weather conditions that forced the cancellation or delays of trips in recent years, according to court records.

Only a handful of people have seen the Titanic's wreckage in person, because precious few have what it takes to visit: the financial resources, access to experts -- and a willingness to accept the significant safety risk.
