'Sometimes good people do bad things,' a judge said during the sentencing of Tory Lanez

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Tory Lanez got married in prison. The rapper tied the knot with Raina Chassagne while serving his sentence in LA prison.

As per the screen grabs shared by journalist Meghann Cuniff, the convict has applied for bail. The images show that Lanez requested ‘to live locally in Los Angeles’ rather than in prison.

What did reporter Cuniff say on Lanez's relationship status?

During the sentencing, Chassagne was seen weeping outside the courthouse after the ‘Hurts Me’ rapper was slapped with a 10-year-sentence for shooting Meghan Thee Stallion on the legs.

“If released, he would live locally in the Los Angeles area with his wife Raina Chassagne and their six-year-old child,” reads the screen-grab.

Cuniff shared on X, (formerly Twitter) that the artist’s 'relationship status has advanced rapidly in the last few weeks.

“His fiancee is now his wife, according to the motion,” the reporter confirmed.

How did Tory Lanez and Raina Chassagne meet?

There’s not much clarity on how the 31-year-old met Chassagne or how they managed to co-parent their six-year-old son Kai.

“I said some very immature things that I shouldn't have said. I revealed some secrets I shouldn't have revealed, said Lanez, whose real name Daystar Peterson, on shooting a fellow rapper," according to Daily Mail.

What did Tory Lanez say to the judge?

In his court address, Tory Lanez pleaded for forgiveness and lighter punishment.

“Give me some sort of alternative that is not prison. I can be a much better man in my community,” he started.

“I’m not standing before you as a celebrity. I stand here as a genuine person who wants a chance. My child needs me - I want to better myself. I want a chance to show the world that the man you see here today is not the real me,” he continued.

The singer further said, “I’m not expecting preferential treatment. But, your honor I’m genuinely asking you with my heart to put me to the test, to give me an opportunity.”

The judge, in his statement, said that he finds it hard reconciling the ‘philanthropic and talented’ persona of Lanez with the man convicted of gun violence.

“Sometimes good people do bad things,” the judge said.

Deputy District Attorney Alex Bott said during the court proceedings, "I felt like I was here for a ‘Man of the Year' award. It doesn’t take much to give to charity when you are a man of great wealth…."

"We are here today because of a heinous act of violence on a defenseless woman. then he put her through hell for two years," he added.

He concluded, "These are the actions of not a good, courageous person but a misogynist and a coward. He asks the court for mercy. But where was the mercy for Megan?"
