TEL AVIV, ISRAEL: Matan Meir, a production crew member for the popular Netflix drama series ‘Fauda’ has reportedly died.

He was fighting Hamas in northern Gaza over the weekend and died in action on Saturday, November 11.

The news of his killing was confirmed by the show. “We are devastated to share that one of our Fauda family members, Matan Meir, was killed in action in Gaza,” they posted on X.

“Matan was an integral crew member. The cast and crew are heartbroken by this tragic loss. We extend our condolences to Matan’s family and friends. May his soul rest in peace," they added.

Which battalion did Matan Meir serve in the war?

Meir was a reservist in Israel’s elite 551st Brigade’s 697th Battalion and a longtime crew member on the award-winning show.

He was among the five soldiers of the 697th Battalion who went down fighting after a blast from a booby-trapped tunnel went off next to a mosque in the Beit Hanoun area, as per Times of Israel.

The four other soldiers include Maj. (res.) Moshe Yedidyah Leiter, 39, Sgt. Maj. (res.) Yossi Hershkovitz, 44, Master Sgt. (res.) Sergey Shmerkin, 32, and Master Sgt. (res.) Netanel (Nati) Harush, 34.

“Matan, a man with a heart of gold full of kindness and giving,” said actor and ‘Fauda’ co-creator Lior Raz in a statement to Ynet.

“I loved you, Matan. You were always available to me at every moment. A man of work and giving out of true love," Raz added.

Matan Meir other big projects as producer

Meir was also part of other successful productions such as ‘The Police', ‘Manayek’, 'The Dream Owner', and ‘Magpie.'

Meanwhile, the Chief producer, Liat Benasoli said of Meir, “[He’s] man with a different soul, a man who entered everyone’s heart.”

“A real moshavnik and a man with a real joy in life. A production man who only wanted to help and do for others. And all with a smile and love. We will miss him very much," Benasoli added.

In the latest news from Gaza, “Conditions at the Al-Shifa hospital, the largest in Gaza, are ‘catastrophic’ as most of the essential units have collapsed, the facility's director, Abu Salmiya, told CNN.

He shared that close to 7,000 people are presently sheltering in the hospital, which comprises 1,500 patients and medical staff, said Abu Salmiya.

“We told the Israeli army that the 300 liters of fuel they offered is not enough to operate the hospital for 30 minutes,” he told the outlet.

“There is no more water, food, milk for children and babies .. the situation in the hospital is catastrophic,” Abu Salmiya said.
