The CW has approved other shows but ‘Gotham Knights’ could not make the cut despite lots of love from DC fans and decent ratings

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The CW has canceled ‘Gotham Knights’ after just one season. The show is set to come out with two more episodes by the end of this month. The network has approved other shows but ‘Gotham Knights’ could not make the cut despite lots of love from DC fans and decent ratings, as reported by Deadline.

While loosely based on the comics by Bob Kane of the same name, the show introduces a completely new character with Turner Hayes who is played by Oscar Morgan. ‘Supernatural’ fame Misha Collins also stars in the show as the district attorney Harvey Dent.

What was the show about?

‘Gotham Knights’ is set in a time when Batman aka Bruce Wayne was murdered. The show focuses on Batman’s adopted son Turner Hayes who teams up with the children of Batman’s enemies—Joker's daughter Duela, Marcus Row's daughter Harper Row and son Cullen Row. The four friends who are framed in Batman's murder try to clear their names and find out who killed Bruce Wayne, with help from Turner's friend Stephanie Brown and Turner's classmate Carrie Kelley, the undercover Robin of this universe. Their group evolves into a replacement for Batman and using their powers and skills, they become the new saviors of Gotham city.

Why was ‘Gotham Knights’ canceled?

‘Gotham Knights’ had the approval of both the critics and the fans and has done quite well throughout its airing time. Though it is surprising, it was not unpredictable given the state of The CW right now.

The CW has undergone significant changes in the management which further affected the business model followed by the TV channel. While the management was able to approve and renew other shows like ‘Superman & Lois’ and ‘All American: Homecoming’, ‘Gotham Knights’ could not make the cut as it didn’t fit the renewed model of the TV channel. The CW has only renewed four of its currently running shows for the next season.

The series was developed by Natalie Abrams, Chad Fiveash, and James Stoteraux, produced by Berlanti Productions while Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and David Madden were the executive producers of the show. It first premiered on Mar 14, 2023.

The next episode of ‘Gotham Knights’ will air on June 20, 2023, on The CW.
