'I would really fight Jake Paul,' Claressa Shields stated, claiming his victory against Nate Diaz doesn't really count

PUERTO RICO: Jake Paul is emerging from a rather uneventful unanimous decision victory against Nate Diaz last weekend. The lackluster fight saw Paul outperform Diaz, who seemed more intent on securing his financial gains this week rather than aiming for a victory in his professional boxing debut.

The victory helps Paul regain his boasting privileges, which were tarnished when Tommy Fury demonstrated that the impressive entertainer isn't a particularly skilled boxer - at least not when facing opponents who aren't MMA fighters with no prior boxing experience.

Will Jake Paul fight Claressa Shields?

Self-proclaimed GWOAT, Claressa Shields, hasn't shied away from challenging Jake, and she has reiterated her intention to defeat him if they were to face off.

One such challenge has come directly from Shields herself. Known as the 'Greatest Woman of All Time' in boxing, Shields boasts an impressive record with minimal damage in the ring.

She has even ventured into the PFL cage, achieving a 1-1 record and securing a multi-year deal with the organization to return in 2024.

“I would really fight Jake Paul in a fight honestly,” Claressa Shields stated when asked about her callout. “I would win, and he knows that. He knows that."

"Jake Paul, listen, Nate Diaz is not a real boxer," she added. "He’s an MMA fighter, he’s not a boxer. So him getting in there and not being able to use his chokes, his feet, his slams, his jiu-jitsu, gave Jake Paul a huge advantage.”

She continued, “I mean he just knocked Nate Diaz down he didn’t beat the mess out of Nate Diaz. Honestly like, he had a real fight against Tommy Fury [and lost]. Jake Paul, he lands punches on guys with really bad defense and he wouldn’t be able to do that with me. I’m sorry, I have too much experience for him.”

In Shields' recent interview with TMZ, the conversation naturally circled back to Jake Paul. She acknowledged that her previous callout to box Keith Thurman wasn't entirely serious.

However, her desire to square off against 'the problem child' appears genuine, and she is confident in her ability to emerge victorious in such a matchup.

Ongoing feud between Claressa Shields and Jake Paul

Back in October 2021, when Paul was just beginning to gain momentum in combat sports, Shields boldly stated that she would "embarrass" the influencer if they were ever to step into the ring together.

At the time, Shields also reacted strongly to the idea of appearing on a Paul undercard, considering herself an undisputed champion. She found the suggestion to be insulting.

Following these statements, it's worth noting that Shields faced a setback in her MMA journey. In her second-ever MMA fight, she suffered a split decision loss to Abigail Montes at PFL 10 in 2021.

Right after Shields lost, Paul cryptically tweeted, "The fake always get exposed," possibly hinting at the outcome of the fight.

“The truth hurts but it’s necessary. Clarissa Shields is a loser. In MMA, and even more so with her prima donna attitude. The fake always get exposed. Losses come when anger and hate take over. Just ask Rousey and McGregor,” Paul wrote.
