Janelle Monáe's 'sudden extreme behaviour change' sparks debate among fans
Singer Janelle Monáe has sparked debate following their dramatic and unexpected NSFW-style shake-up in a new clip. In February this year, Monáe, who uses they/them pronouns, released a new single Float ahead of an announcement about their new album, The Age of Pleasure due for release on 9 June. Now, the second single released from that album, titled 'Lipstick Lover', has got fans talking about their style evolution from suited sci-fi/fantasy to their new sexy era. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Monáe shared a teaser clip of the NSFW video that clearly shows a more sensual style from the 37-year-old as they can be seen emerging from a pool wearing a translucent skin-tight t-shirt with the word “Pleasure” written across the front. Through the wet t-shirt, the performer's bare breasts could be seen, meanwhile, other clips showed that Monáe is exploring a more sexually liberal style with snippets of their face next to a woman’s bare bum. Meanwhile, another video has emerged online of Monae exposing their breasts while performing live. The rebrand has sparked debate among Monáe’s fans, with some loving the evolution and others disagreeing. One person wrote: “The Janelle Monae showing more skin vs suits is a transition that was coming. The suits paid homage. They represented the foundation of her career. It’s natural to change.” Another argued: “Rebrand of the century, I need more women to change their lives for better just like Janelle Monae.” Someone else questioned: “Did they clone Janelle Monae? Cuz the sudden behavior change is extreme to me lol.” “I need a Janelle Monae interview cause I need to know what sparked the change,” another tweet read. Have your say in our news democracy. Ryan Reynolds appears to troll pal Taylor Swift over Matty Healy dating rumours
Ryan Reynolds appeared to troll celebrity pal Taylor Swift over recent rumours that she's dating The 1975's Matty Healy. In a post to his Instagram Stories, the 'Deadpool' actor shared a selfie of himself and chose to include The 1975’s hit song "Chocolate," for the music. There was also a caption: "Zoom Zoom," that appeared on Reynolds's forehead, in what can only be described as a random post with no context whatsoever. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter While Swift herself wasn't not mentioned in the Insta story, it hasn't stopped fans from questioning the song choice, given recent reports that Swift and Healy were spotted together, with The 1975 frontman also in attendance at the popstar's Nashville Eras Tour shows. It comes after The Sun first reported a "source close to Taylor" alleged Swift and Healy are "madly in love," and that it's "super-early days, but it feels right." With this recent post by Reynolds, fans don't quite know what to make of it all. Reynolds often takes to social media to troll his actor wife Blake Lively and his showbiz mates such as Rob McElhenney, and Hugh Jackman, so it could be another instance of this. While he and Lively are good friends with Swift, as back in 2016 the couple spent the Fourth of July with the 'Anti-Hero' singer and her then-boyfriend Tom Hiddleston. A voice recording of the couple's eldest daughter, James features on Swift's 2017 song 'Gorgeous,' while their third daughter's name is also a track ('Betty') on the singer's album Folklore where James and their second daughter Inez are also mentioned in the lyrics of the song. "I named all the characters in this story after my friends' kids... and I hope you like it!" Swift said on country radio in 2020. When Swift won Album of the Year award for 'Folklore' at the 2021 Grammy's, she thanked "James, Inez and Betty and their parents who are the second people that I play every new song that I write." VAR and referee discussions to be aired for first time on Monday Night Football
Conversations between referees and VARs concerning some of the key incidents of the Premier League season will be aired for the first time during the next Monday Night Football programme on Sky Sports. Howard Webb, the chief refereeing officer at Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) will talk through the two-way audio discussions alongside Sky pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher on May 15, the PA news agency understands. PGMOL is determined to provide as much transparency as the game’s laws allow by making this footage available as a one-off pilot. However, it could become a more regular feature next season – potentially even reaching the point where decisions from a Saturday and a Sunday are routinely reviewed on a Monday evening – if the initial pilot is well received. It is currently forbidden for the audio to be broadcast live in any competition in the world, but a trial is ongoing in selected FIFA events – including the Club World Cup earlier this year – where referees communicate the final decision reached after a VAR check to the crowd via the public address system. The Monday Night Football programme will start at the earlier time of 6.30pm to allow for the usual pre-match build-up for the Leicester v Liverpool match before the VAR discussion involving Webb.
