‘We call them Picky Bits’: Nigella Lawson responds to ‘Girl Dinner’ trend
‘We call them Picky Bits’: Nigella Lawson responds to ‘Girl Dinner’ trend
Nigella Lawson has responded to the viral “Girl Dinner” trend that has been sweeping social media. On Saturday, The New York Times detailed the new TikTok phenomenon in an article with the headline: “Is It a Meal? A Snack? No, It’s ‘Girl Dinner’”. According to the publication, the phrase was coined a few months ago by TikTok user Olivia Maher, who posted a video in which she spoke about the virtues of a medieval-style dinner. “I can’t find the TikTok right now but a girl just came on here and said in the Medieval times, peasants had to eat nothing but bread and cheese and how awful that was,” she says in the clip, which has since been watched more then one million times. “And she was like, ‘That’s my ideal meal,’” Maher added before showing her dinner to the camera, revealing a selection of bread, cheese, grapes and pickles. “I call this girl dinner, or medieval peasant.” Maher told The New York Times: “I think the concept of girl dinner came to me while I was on a hot girl walk with another female friend of mine.” “We love eating that way, and it feels like such a girl dinner because we do it when our boyfriends aren’t around and we don’t have to have what’s a ‘typical dinner’ – essentially, with a protein and a veggie and a starch.” The article has prompted a mixed response on social media, with some accusing it of promoting disordered eating while others claim the diet is nothing new and mimics those adopted by mediteranean cultures. “This is a TikTok trend, apparently – bread, cold cuts, cheese, raw veggies,” tweeted writer Tom Hillenbrand. “Most Germans eat like this every evening. We call it Abendbrot.” Lawson replied, quoting Hillenbrand’s tweet: “And we call them Picky Bits.” Read More Schoolboy almost dies from swallowing magnets for TikTok challenge Woman shares honest review of New York City apartment TikTok mom slammed after making 5-year-old son run in 104 degree heat

All of the best looks from the Barbie world premiere
Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Issa Rae and all the stars of the Greta Gerwig-directed film graced the hot pink carpet of the Barbie world premiere in downtown LA. Australian actor Margot Robbie channelled the 1960s Solo in the Spotlight Barbie – and it’s the definition of the siren look. Robbie’s stylist Andrew Mukamal choose a black embellished rhinestone Schiaparelli strapless dress with a nylon net flounce at the bottom, and a red rose. She paired the glamourous number with a four-strand Lorraine Schwartz diamond choker, black arm-length gloves and black peep toe heels, while holding a pink chiffon pocket scarf. The Solo in the Spotlight Barbie has endured as a collectors’ favourite. Ryan Gosling brought the Ken-ergy with his Gucci plush two-piece suit and unbuttoned shirt in baby pink. He paired it with a Barbie pendent necklace, cream brogues, and was styled by Mark Avery. President Barbie Issa Rae and her stylist Wouri Vice had a custom moment with designer Marc Bouwer in a hot pink, key-hole gown, with a turtle neck and large bow. She wore it with her hair pulled back into a high pony tail, diamond drop-down earrings and a pink clutch bag. It was a full circle moment for rapper Nicki Minaj also known as the ‘original Barbie’ on the film’s soundtrack. Her outfit was inspired by the Diva Gone Platinum Barbie, and wore a grey ribbed crop top and wrap detail draped maxi skirt. Israeli model and actor Gal Gadot made a surprise appearance at the Barbie LA premiere, in an asymmetric JW Anderson brown pin-striped dress. Her hair was parted down the middle and pulled back into a sleek ponytail. Gadot paired the look with an white asymmetric bag and perspex heels. Doctor Strange star Xochitl Gomez wore a Dolce & Gabbana black and white gingham fishtail dress. She paired it with a black umbrella, black court heels and an elegant updo. Singer Dua Lipa – who stars as Mermaid Barbie and is on the film’s soundtrack with Billie Eilish and Nicki Minaj – wore an alluring silver sheer custom dress, with a square neckline detailing, and metallic silver pointed heels. The film’s writer, director, and executive producer Greta Gerwig arrived at the premiere in hot pink — from head to toe. She wore a pink blouse with a pussybow neckline that she tucked into a floor-length maxi skirt, and pink court heels. She paired the outfit with a pink oversized blazer she wore off the shoulder, and a pink mini Valentino bag.

Fans praise ‘power of facial hair’ after Will Poulter debuted new look at Paris Fashion Week
Fans praise ‘power of facial hair’ after Will Poulter debuted new look at Paris Fashion Week
Will Poulter has turned fans’ heads after sporting a new look at this year’s Paris Fashion Week. The Bear star, 30, was seen at the Dior Homme Menswear Spring/Summer 2023 show in June with a moustache and a light smattering of facial hair framing his chin and jaw. Although the actor debuting the look more than two weeks ago, fans have begun to sit up and take notice of his dapper appearance after sharing photographs on social media. One tweet that has been viewed more than 8.7m times featuring a trio of photos of Poulter smiling at the camera was shared by a user who goes by the handle @fatfabfeminist. She wrote: “HELLO?? WILL POULTER??? UR KIDDING???” In another tweet, she said: “I cannot express the reaction I had to these pictures but oh my god.” Others admired his “glowup”, with one person writing: “I’ve always thought he was really cute in an awkward way, I’m so glad he grew into his skin.” “This man has had the most insane glow-up,” another said, while a third added: “This should confirm that growing a bear increases your attractiveness ten times more.” In further praise of facial hair, another said: “Facial hair needs to be audited and governed by some centralised agency because the way this just changed my entire worldview on this man is giving me whiplash.” One person wrote: “A light beard will always help frame and sharpen the face thus helping you look aesthetically pleasing and elevates the look from a boy to a MAN. “You go Will Poulter! (Gone are the days that you’ll be compared to Sid from Toy Story haha)” On social media, Poulter has sometimes been compared to the animated character of Sid in the Toy Story franchise. In May, he revealed that he was once even mistaken for Sid while at a urinal in LA, after a man turned to him and asked if he was in the Pixar animated film. “I don’t want to be rude. I also appreciate there’s a meme going round of me – I dressed up as Sid from ‘Toy Story’ for anti-bullying week. So arguably I haven’t helped my case. But [Toy Story came out in] 1995. I was two. And they weren’t doing it through live action,” he said. The Guardians of the Galaxy star wore a short-sleeved white-collared shirt with smart chinos and pale green clogs under a pale multi-coloured trench coat to the fashion show. In terms of his looks, Poulter is also known for his arched eyebrows which are highly expressive. He opened up about his personal style in a 2022 interview with British GQ, in which he revealed he is a “massive sneakerhead”, referring to his love for trainers. He said that when he was younger, he would emulate other people’s style without “really knowing what I was doing”, but now knows which labels “really suit my personality”. Poulter named Frank Ocean, Robert Pattinson and Michaela Coel as celebrities whose sense of style he admires. “I’d also absolutely love and can probably only dream of collaborating with a brand on a collection,” he added. “I’m actually a massive sneakerhead – I’ve had to tell myself I won’t spend money in Flight Club today – but a sneaker collaboration would be pretty cool to do.” Read More Jonah Hill’s ex-girlfriend Sarah Brady accuses him of ‘emotional abuse’ Denise Welch opens up about moment Matty Healy told her he needed rehab Woman exits plane after tirade about passenger who is ‘not real’: ‘I’m not about to be Final Destination-ed’ David and Victoria Beckham throw Prada party to celebrate Harper’s 12th birthday Every Barbie-inspired outfit Margot Robbie has worn so far How to make your summer tan last longer

Hotel 'makes $43,000 a day from one single drink'
One of Singapore's most famous hotels reportedly makes $43,000 a day from one of their popular cocktails. Raffles Hotel is the home to one of the world's most iconic drinks, the Singapore Sling, which has since gone on to become known as the national drink. According to AU News, the hotel sells around 1,000 Singapore Slings a day. Costing $43 a pop, that would mean the Raffles Long Bar racks up a staggering $43,000 a day. One viral TikTok by @girlsvsglobe shows Sabina ticking off trying the famous drink, made from gin, pineapple juice, lime juice, curaçao and Bénédictine. Raffles also give visitors monkey nuts with the tradition of smashing the shells on the floor. Raffles soon became a place of gathering, with men meeting up over glasses of whisky and gin. During this time, women were not allowed to drink alcohol in public, and so, teas, soft drinks and fruit juices were provided. Ngiam soon saw the opportunity to create an alcoholic drink to deceptively look like juice – but that was secretly infused with alcohol. "The clever bartender made the beverage pink to give it a feminine flair which, together with the use of clear alcohol, led people to think it was a socially acceptable drink for women," Raffles explained. "With that, the Singapore Sling was born. Needless to say, it became an instant hit." Have your say in our news democracy. David and Victoria Beckham throw Prada party to celebrate Harper’s 12th birthday: ‘CHIC!’
David and Victoria Beckham throw Prada party to celebrate Harper’s 12th birthday: ‘CHIC!’
David and Victoria Beckham have celebrated their daughter Harper’s 12th birthday a couple of days earlier with a party at the Prada Caffè in Harrods. The couple’s only daughter will turn a year older on Monday 10 July. She wore a silk lilac slip dress with lace trim from Victoria’s label, with sporty trainers and a sparkly £950 Prada Re-Edition handbag. The proud designer shared snaps from the party on her Instagram account, including a snap of her and Harper with their arms around one another, as well as the birthday girl with her famous footballer father and brothers Romeo and Cruz. Victoria wrote in the caption: “Harper Seven is 12!! (almost) Prada party for Harper Seven CHIC!” Harper was also pictured beaming with a large personalised cake in front of her, with 12 tall white candles waiting to be blown out. Fans praised Harper for her style and wished her a happy birthday. “You can just tell that she’s a genuine good kid! Happy birthday Harper!” one person wrote. Another said: “She’s so tall now! What a lovely young lady she’s become.” The luxurious Prada Caffè features pistachio-coloured walls and interiors, with black-and-white checkerboard floors and marble tables. The themed café opened in March and promises to bring a taste of Milan to Harrods. It comes after Victoria and David marked their 24th wedding anniversary last week with three of their four children. Their eldest son Brooklyn lives in the US with his wife, Nicola Peltz. The couple married on 4 July 1999 in a ceremony at Ireland’s Luttrellstown Castle. They paid tribute to one another on social media by posting throwback photographs of each other and sharing sweet messages. Victoria previously described Harper as her “number one muse” and has created designs especially for her. In January, she shared a mirror selfie of her and Harper, with the then-11-year-old in a strapless ombre gown and sneakers. She wrote: “Mummy loved creating this dress for you.” However, Harper doesn’t always share her former pop star mother’s sartorial tastes. Last year, Victoria revealed just what her daughter thought of the Spice Girls’ iconic miniskirts. Speaking to Vogue Australia, the Spice Girl formerly known as Posh Spice said her daughter is “not one of these kids who are going out with a full face of make-up and a crop top”. “She actually said to me recently, ‘Mummy, I’ve seen some pictures of you when you were in the Spice Girls and your skirts were just unacceptable. They were just too short,” Victoria recalled. “And she was actually quite disgusted at how short my skirts were. “I said, ‘Are you never going to wear skirts like that?’ She said, ‘Absolutely not’. We’ll see.” In the same interview Victoria revealed that she was concerned that Harper will be subjected to body shaming when she is old enough to use social media. She said that her daughter was not allowed on social media yet, but she was concerned about “how cruel people can be”. “She’s at that age where her body is going to start changing, but it’s about making sure that we communicate a lot as a family and she surrounds herself with nice friends,” Victoria said. “But it is quite terrifying, I can’t lie.” Read More Conflict, toxic group chats and organised fun: How we came to despise the hen do Woman exits plane after tirade about passenger who is ‘not real’: ‘Final Destination vibes’ Who is in the Royal Box on the sixth day of Wimbledon?
